The Foundation's Board consists of five members. Two of those members have many years of experience as successful inventors and educators. All of the members have extensive experience in entrepreneurship.
Foundation Board Member James L. Cairns wrote The Inventor's Pathfinder to guide those new to the field of inventing around the pitfalls that are inherent in the process. The Foundation is taking a more hands-on approach with young inventors by mentoring them through the process.
The Foundation is also working in conjunction with the Small Business Development Center; University of Central Florida, Business Incubation Program; and the Volusia County, Florida, Department of Economic Development to establish a program in which the Foundation is able to identify and, through mentoring and funding, aid young inventors to realize the technical and commercial successes of their creations .

Tool Patent Testimonial -from Russell & Kim Barnhart
"The assistance that The Cairns Foundation provided for our wheel-weight-tool inventions was instrumental in turning our ideas into marketable, profitable products. It's exciting and amazing to see your ideas in actual, commercial use. We can't thank Jim Cairns and the Foundation enough for sharing their time and knowledge to help make our dream a reality."
